How to Apply a Discount Code

Learn where to enter a discount code in Crates, how to check the amount, and what happens when you upgrade.

Written by Anchor Ebanks

Quick Answer: Enter your discount code in Crates before continuing to payment, during the plan step of sign-up or on the plan page (Choose your plan). When a code applies, the amount shown includes it.

How to Apply a Discount Code

  1. Open Have a discount code? below the plan choices.

  2. Enter your code in Discount code, then choose Apply.

  3. Check the message and the updated amount before continuing to payment.

When the code applies, you normally see Code applied. The amount due today includes it. You can choose Remove to remove the code.

If a code applies only to some plans, the app says This code doesn't apply to every plan. Plans without it show their regular price.

If the code cannot be combined with payment credit, the app tells you that your existing credit is not applied to this checkout.

If Your Code Doesn't Work

If a code cannot be applied, you see That code can't be applied to this purchase. If Crates cannot check it right now, you see We couldn't check your code just now. Try again in a moment, or remove the code to continue at the regular price.

Do Codes Work When I Upgrade?

If you are upgrading a recurring membership, there is no box to enter a new code. If you previously entered a code in Crates, the upgrade page says Discount codes can't change the price of an upgrade. The amount due today is unchanged. The code is not applied, and you can remove it or continue at the displayed amount.

If you are moving from a one-time purchase to an annual plan, the Upgrade for more letters page can offer code entry. Check the displayed amount and any message about payment credit before continuing.

Why Isn't There a Code Box on the Payment Page?

When you continue from these plan screens to Stripe's payment page, there is no additional code box. Crates applies the code before you leave so the checkout amount matches the amount shown in the app.
